Precepts
A hard won
and agonizing pilgrimage
I made to the center of my own beating heart.
You See, I thought I was trying to get out
But no.
The membrane I pushed + wrestled
and fought,
the cocoon I fused with
and surrendered to
and melted through
went down
not out.
It went deeper within.
And here, at the bottom,
lies the wellspring
of all that I know
to be true + right
beautiful + dangerous
wild + free.
I would not have fallen here
Were it not for the flying and the flailing,
the unsteady, yet decidedly sure
steps taken
day after day
breath after breath
towards that raging and terrifying
Center.
That infinite nothingness
that bears the weight of Soul.
It is here that I Know my precepts.
It is here that they have whispered from
It is here that they have always been calling me to.
This Deep.
Listen… can you hear them sing?
Joy. Simplicity. Wisdom. Freedom.
They are mine to say
over and over
like a mantra.
Joy. Simplicity. Wisdom. Freedom.
They are mine to live
over and over
like a tide.
I swear it now
that this will be my life.
My breath.
This will be my Center.
What do we do now?
I wonder.
Now that we have been found
After so many years of seeking?
And the Deep whispers, gently,
”Now,” she says,
“We listen.
We let the current carry us.
And we let The Great Story
that is beyond our one
small and precious life
unfold.”
